10 Tips for Your Website

I am by no means an expert in web design, but I have built and been through many redesigns so I have many opinions on the matter in my latest YouTube video.

As a summary, here are the 10 points I discussed:

1. List Your Location

I think it is important – yet often overlooked – to have your location listed on your website. I have it twice on my home page, once on the “about” page and once on “contact” page.

2. Have a CLEAR Central Message

Every square inch of your website should resonate with the same central message: your “mission statement”.

If you need help coming up with a clear message for your business, my Marketing Course takes you through exactly how to create yours!

3. Add Facebook Pixels

Follow the instructions on Facebook to add a pixel to your website. This way you can track traffic and target Facebook and Instagram ads to your website visitors!

4. Add Google Analytics

Make sure you have Google Analytics enabled on your website so that you can capture and interpret the data from each of your visitors. How they found you, what pages they looked at (in what order), and demographics are some of the important analytics that I watch regularly.

5. Newsletter Sign-Up

Capturing emails is one of the few opportunities we have to own our audience. I think it is essential to have an opt-in on your website to collect email addresses.

6. Very Clear Call to Action

Every single page of your website should have a call to action: a very clear next step that you want the viewer to take. It may be to follow your social media, visit another page of the website, or complete a contact form to get in touch with you.

7. ONLY the Best in Your Portfolio

Cull, cull, cull. ONLY show what you want to shoot on your website and what is the best representation of your work. I think that your portfolio should be representing what you want in the future, and not necessarily a history of your past. Keep all portfolio categories clear, separate, and in-line with what you want to do going forward.

8. Mobile-Friendly

Mobile-PRIMARY. After reviewing your Google Analytics, I bet you will find more than half of your website traffic is from a phone. It might be closer to 2/3. Your web design must be optimized for mobile traffic to give the best experience possible.

9. Pictures of You

It is imperative that you establish a connection with your audience and one of the easiest ways to do that is by showing images of you!

10. Font That is Easy to Read

Ensure all text is easy to read in terms of font selection, contrast, and colors.

BONUS: I also discuss showing your pricing/packages on your website, if you should have video, and my thoughts on testimonials/social proof on the YouTube video.
