Here are the components of my equine photography contract to help if you are drafting a contract from scratch with your lawyer, or if you are considering purchasing a contract template.

• • WHO: name all of the parties involved
  • WHAT: describe the services.
    • Who is responsible for what and WHEN?
    • I include hours of coverage, any products or product credits, what rights to the images are included, and when my client can expect deliverables.
  • FEES: which amounts are due when
    • I include all of the ways that are acceptable to pay (cash, check, payment processors, credit/debit cards) with instructions, late fee penalties, etc
  • STUDIO POLICIES: any pain points for your business can be quelled now
    • I include my policies for timeliness, cancellations, rescheduling, and no-shows
    • I include rules about editing and retouching and my creative license
  • COPYRIGHT
    • Outline what is permitted use of the images, and what is prohibited
  • MODEL RELEASE
    • Be specific about where you might put/use these images
  • LIABILITY + ASSUMPTION OF RISK
    • Generic, but make sure it includes horses
  • All of the typical legal stuff: Merger, Amendments, severability, notices, competency, governing law
