Ballin on a Budget

A few FREE (or inexpensive) ways to improve your marketing game!

1. Website Overhaul

If you have a website, keep it fresh!

  1. I try to only keep images from the last 12-24 months so that my portfolio reflects my current style. When I go through my portfolio I remove old work and add my latest favorites.
  2. Double-check that you have Google Analytics, that it STILL works, and take some time to analyze which pages are popular and your biggest referral sources.
  3. Double-check that your contact form works! Send a test message to yourself.
  4. Audit your website for the 10 MUST-HAVES I wrote about before (find them here)!
  5. If it has been a while, try making some design changes to keep your website fresh and to drive more traffic to view your “new” site.

2. Google My Business Account

If you don’t have a “Google My Business” account, set up one for FREE! If you already have one, keep it updated:

  1. Keep the images fresh by uploading your latest sessions.
  2. Ask past clients to leave you a review.
  3. Audit all of the content to ensure everything looks correct (including links and contact information).

3. Start a New Series

Come up with a topic, or series of topics, your audience is interested in to educate on. This could be an opportunity to teach, showcase your favorite work, or take on personal work endeavors.

  1. You could create YouTube videos for the series, blog photographs or written copy, and/or start an email newsletter (if you don’t have one).
  2. FREE email newsletter providers include Mail Chimp or Mad Mimi.
  3. Check out my tips for building an email list here.

4. Make it Easy to Contact You

Respond to every DM, email, snap, text, phone call and message with a personalized and thoughtful response.

  1. Respond immediately if you can!
  2. Place your contact information so that it is EASY to find (your website footer, your Instagram bio, etc).
  3. Make it EASY for people to get in touch with you and get their questions answered.
  4. FOLLOW UP with past inquiries to see if they are still interested in your services.

5. Stay in Touch with Past Clients

Reach out to past clients with notes of love and encouragement.

  1. You can send past clients emails, follow them on social media and engage with their content, or meet up with them at events.
  2. If you have the budget for a postage stamp, try writing a handwritten note and sending it in the mail!
  3. Ask for feedback about their experience working with you using programs like TypeForm.
  4. Ask for reviews on your Facebook or Google pages – or even via email so you can add the testimonial to your website.
