I have three tips for preparing your clients for a perfect equine photography session!
1. Be the Client
The moment you get in front of the camera, you suddenly feel the insecurities and questions that your client experiences. Take a self-portrait, book a session with another photographer, or trade services with a friend for you to take the opportunity to BE PHOTOGRAPHED. Take note of every question you have: What do I wear? What nail polish color looks best? Do I get myself ready first, or my horse? Use this personal experience to guide your clients through the preparation process as a professional.
2. Collect Frequently Asked Questions
Log any questions that your clients email, text or call you with in the weeks leading up to their session. I also ask for feedback after the session about things my clients learned, or what they would do differently next time.
3. Create a Preparation Guide
Use the information from points 1 and 2 to create a PDF to email, a page on your website, or a printed magazine. This guide will answer the frequently asked questions, calm their nerves, give them a gameplan and checklist as they prepare, set expectations, as well as prime them for print sales post-session.
