Posing Tips Part 2: Fingers

Welcome back to Posing Tips! Last week we covered shifting weight when posing a client. Need to catch up on it? Read it here!

I think the hands are extremely important to the image, as fingers can tell a lot of the story! While fingers can help create a relaxed, natural-looking photo, they can also show tension.

Most clients are physically holding their horse in place for the photo (we’ve all been there!) and I always want to make sure that my photos do not show this.  If I have to ask a client to hold their horse’s head in place, I will ask them to use the hand furthest away from me so it doesn’t appear in the image.

Another favorite pose to help manage an antsy horse is to have the client bring their hand over the bridge of the horse’s nose, just far enough to hold the horse in place, but not far enough that all we’re seeing is the client’s wrist.

If you are interested in learning more about how I pose, I offer a Posing Course that thoroughly breaks down the foundation of how I pose a horse, how I pose a human, and how I direct the two together!
